About IGCSE Chemistry (0620)
Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry (0620) sits at the heart of the sciences, and the Extended tier is aimed at students going for the top grades and thinking about AS and A Level Chemistry, medicine or engineering later on. You start with the particle model and the structure of the atom, then work outwards into bonding, the mole and reacting masses, energy changes, rates, acids and bases, the Periodic Table and a solid block of organic chemistry. By the end it should feel like one connected subject rather than a set of separate facts.
The grade comes from three written papers. Paper 2 is multiple choice and worth 30%, Paper 4 is the extended theory paper worth 50% and decides most of your grade, and Paper 6 is the Alternative to Practical worth 20%, which asks about experiments, apparatus and results instead of putting you in a lab on the day. Marks in 0620 are won on precise definitions, correct chemical language and calculations where you show every step, so getting your working and your equations right matters as much as knowing the theory.

How to do well in Chemistry
The students who do best in IGCSE Chemistry treat the calculations as something to drill, not something to read about. Moles, reacting masses, concentration, percentage yield and titrations come up in almost every series, and once the method is automatic you can bank those marks quickly and spend your time on the harder written parts. Keep a running list of the standard equations and the units that go with them and test yourself on it every week.
Alongside that, learn the definitions and the reasons behind them. Examiners want to see why a reaction is exothermic, why a metal conducts, or why a rate goes up when temperature rises, written in full and in the right order. Work through past papers by topic first so you can see the same ideas asked in slightly different ways, then sit full papers to time and mark them against the official mark scheme. Paper 6 rewards this too, since the practical questions follow patterns you can learn.

How do I revise for IGCSE Chemistry?
Drill the calculations until the method is automatic, learn the definitions in full, then work through past papers topic by topic before moving on to full timed papers marked against the mark scheme. Reviewing where you dropped marks is what pushes a grade up.
Does IGCSE Chemistry lead to A Level Chemistry?
